This edition examines the current state of opposition politics in Russia. Firstly, Vladimir Gel'man assesses why the regime is increasingly using a strategy of coercion vis-à-vis organized political dissent, and considers what can be expected in the years ahead. Secondly, David White analyzes the challenges faced by those mobilizing opposition to the Putin regime, suggesting that the most realistic goal for the opposition is simply to stay in existence until more favorable conditions present themselves. In addition, the edition contains several opinion polls about attitudes to opposition politics in Russia.
