This paper addresses nuclear power in a global context, highlighting Asia's growing use of nuclear power and the slower capacities in North America and Europe. The author discusses nuclear energy as linking sustainable growth, energy and the environment and examines global developments of the nuclear power sector by region. He then discusses issues of reactor safety, nuclear waste management, financing nuclear power, research and development, and climate change. He explores the role of international and regional cooperation and concludes with recommendations.
