This paper discusses the links between economic development, energy and environmental problems in China. It focuses on China's commitment toward reducing pollution associated with energy use, including green house gases such as carbon dioxide. The authors discuss energy production and composition in China, consumption and composition by sector, the elasticity index of energy consumption, and import and export of energy. They also examine the greenhouse effect on climate and provide research on sources of carbon dioxide emissions. The paper discusses technologies to help mitigate carbon dioxide emissions in China, highlighting the role of strengthened environmental monitoring and law.
