Today we know that Francis Fukuyama (1992) was wrong: The end of the Cold War was not synonymous with the end of history. History continues. The corollary to this piece of evidence is that conflict – all too often deadly forms of conflict – between different human entities remain a reality. Even if some argue that the number and magnitude of violent conflicts have decreased recently, there is ample evidence to the contrary.
