After 16 years of a very fragile ceasefire, the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process continues to depend not only on the attitudes of the conflicting parties, but also on the reorganization of the region at the political, security and energy-providing levels. This paper looks at three specific developments that might impact the dispute over Karabakh – the contending parties’ growing frustration with the OSCE’s Minsk Group mediation process; the US-brokered Turkish-Armenian rapprochement and the deterioration in US-Azeri relations; and finally, Russia’s recent resurgence in the region.
