This KOFF paper discusses the general process of dealing with the past. The authors analyze Switzerland's legacy in dealing with the past and further discuss the effect of other issues such as truth, historical memory, democratization, and international humanitarian law on the process of countries dealing with their past. The paper provides several policy recommendations based on the authors' interpretations of lessons learned from the past.
