This article discusses incorrect and falsified economic statistics in Russia. The divergence between statistical data and real life in Russia has become the source of societal tensions and has reduced people’s confidence in the government. Primarily, this study concerns the volume and dynamics of gross domestic product, which is most often used to judge the decline and growth of economic development. It exposes the faults in this indicator and even its falsification in Russia. The author advocates the adoption of a new economic indicator focused on real national wealth.
