On 21 August 2013, the Syrian opposition announced a massive chemical attack in the Ghouta region. A number of officials, especially from Western countries, have stated that the Syrian government is responsible for the incident. This paper, however, claims that new evidence suggests that the chemical strike in the Damascus suburbs was indeed a pre-meditated provocation by the Syrian opposition in order to trigger a US-led military intervention. The author raises many questions in relations to the attack including whether or not the US had any foreknowledge of the incident. Ultimately, he argues, a detailed chemical analysis of the agents used in the attack is needed to provide the guidelines as to who’s the responsible party.
