This paper looks at popular unrest and anti-government protests in Sudan following fuel prices hikes in September 2013. The riots, the author writes, serve as a stark reminder of the country's inherent fragility and instability. He argues that Bashir's government tries to divert from the internal crises by addressing external threats. The increasing military build-up in the country could therefore indeed be pointing to active preparations for a major land war.
