This paper examines how key developments and transformations in the global security environment have created a new set of challenges and opportunities for NATO. The authors first outline some of the key developments and challenges in the global security environment and suggest some recommendations for NATO on how to respond to these. The authors conclude by suggesting that NATO should reconsider its place in the global landscape as well as its future roles, missions, and functions from a more strategic, long-term perspective.
