This paper examines the role of gender in “Dealing with the Past” (DwP) processes after a violent conflict, an authoritarian regime or an occupation. After presenting a conceptual framework for DwP, the authors highlight key gender aspects that are especially important during these processes. They argue that if gender aspects are correctly introduced, DwP can contribute to more equal relations between men and women.
