This paper examines the interaction between the EU debate and the Turkish debate on Europe and Turkey's potential membership in the EU. It first talks about the role civil society plays in the governance of the EU. It then provides an interpretation of the 'europeanization' process in Turkey and how the debate on the country’s potential membership in the EU is framed both at home and in the Union. Finally, it looks at how Turkish political parties, civil society organizations, trade unions, and media view Europe and the national debate surrounding their country's membership in the EU.
