This brief discusses the visa liberalization process between Turkey and the EU following Turkey's acceptance of the EU's roadmap for it in December 2013. The author argues that visa liberalization would considerably improve EU-Turkey relations by restoring trust. He also thinks that both parties would benefit from the process as Turkish students and businesspeople would be able to travel more freely and European economies would receive a boost from Turkish tourism. He warns, however, that for liberalization to take place there needs to be active support from Turkey's government, the opposition and civil society.
