This paper discusses the rationale behind the Southern Gas Corridor, which could supply Europe with gas from the Caspian region and the Middle East. It also examines why the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline was selected for the Corridor’s European leg. The author argues that the Southern Gas Corridor should play a key part in the EU's reconsideration of how it can ensure its energy security, particularly in light of its relations with Russia. He also says that although the corridor is not a short-term solution, it could become a major source of gas for Europe and that the EU should invest resources to speed up its development.
