This paper focuses on the current and future status of Turkish-Russian relations, particularly in the wake of the latter's annexation of Crimea. Since the relations include a complex web of economic, sociological and geopolitical factors, they will most likely prevent open ruptures between the two states, as will Turkey's recent slide towards political authoritarianism. And yet, despite these seeming ties that bind, the paper concludes that Turkey will not be jettisoning its Western orientation anytime soon.
