This book examines Italy's airpower doctrine fundamentals and trends stemming from operational experience since the end of the Cold War, as well as possible future scenarios of crisis management operations which would envisage the use of fighter aircraft. On the basis of this analysis, it outlines the needs of the Italian military concerning fighter aircraft and discusses the possible procurement options to satisfy that demand. The last chapter addresses the Italian participation in the F‐35 procurement program.
