This paper examines the energy reforms that Mexican President Peña Nieto signed into law on August 11, 2014. The seeming reasons for the reforms are to 1) increase investment in Mexico's hydrocarbons sector, 2) improve the sector’s infrastructure, 3) boost oil and gas production levels, and 4) spur general economic growth.
