This paper discusses the positive and negative repercussions on the Afghan economy which the scheduled withdrawal at the end of 2014 of international forces, and their associated donor aid, is likely to have. The author particularly focuses on the post-conflict employment approaches as well as challenges and opportunities of the agricultural and food-processing sector. He contends that the development of a self-sustaining private sector would help reduce the population's dependency on foreign aid.
