This brief assesses the future of the Turkish-EU economic relations in light of the initiation of US-EU negotiations on the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Pact (TTIP). In particular, the author discusses 1) the possible adverse effects of the TTIP on the Turkish economy; 2) what Turkey, the US and the EU can do to minimize the adverse effects of the TTIP on Turkey; 3) the possibility of a US-Turkey free trade agreement and an increase in the political and economic relations between Turkey and the EU; 4) how the EU-Turkey Customs Union contributed to the integration of Turkey's economy with that of the Union; and the future of the Customs Union.
