This publication comments on the decision of key US allies to join the China-led Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) despite Washington’s decision to boycott the bank. The author argues that this reflects both China’s rising influence on the global stage and a loss of confidence in US leadership. She concludes that Washington can gain more by cooperating with China on issues of overlapping interest than by categorically boycotting initiatives such as the AIIB.
