This paper considers how the growing prominence of autonomous weapons technologies will impact the future of armed conflict. The author argues that autonomous systems make the battlefield more complex but will not fundamentally change the nature of war. Therefore, these technologies do not pose a new ethical dilemma per se and can be regulated in line with existing legal norms.
