This paper examines patterns in migration from the Arab Mediterranean countries (AMC), with a particular focus on young emigrants. The author first reviews the typical profiles of migrants (age, gender), their education levels, labor market status and reasons for migration. He then looks at the traditional destinations of migrants from the AMCs as well as how EU policy and the Arab Spring have affected emigration flows. Finally, he provides recommendations on how to improve cooperation on migration between the EU and the AMCs.
