This paper discusses the economic challenges facing Turkey, their causes and the government's strategies to overcome them, with a particular focus on the country's current account deficit. The author also compares Turkey's economy with that of the BRICS countries as well as other developing countries. He contends that for Turkey to overcome its current account deficit, the country must increase the high-technology content of its exports. He also provides recommendations on how Turkey can work towards this goal.
