This publication looks at the relations between China and Turkey in light of reports confirming that the so-called Islamic State (IS) has successfully recruited Uyghurs from China’s volatile Xinjiang province to join its ranks. According to the author, the issue has dealt a significant blow to the Sino-Turkish relationship as Beijing accuses Ankara of allowing the transit of Uyghur jihadists into Syria. She urges Turkey and the international community to take China’s concerns very seriously and to work with Beijing to help bring about a political solution the conflict in Syria.
