This publication comments on the final nuclear deal between the P5+1 nations and Iran reached on July 14, 2015. The author warns that Iran is not likely to adhere to the agreement despite the economic and political incentives to do so and points to the lessons that should be drawn from North Korea’s failure to comply with its 1994 nuclear agreement with the US. As he sees it, the leadership in both Teheran and Pyongyang is primarily interested in self-preservation. Nuclear capabilities, ‘rogue’ behavior and opposition towards the US and the Western-imposed world order are considered essential for regime survival in both countries. The author also comments on the history of nuclear programs in North Korea, Iran and other ‘rogue states’, including Pakistan and Libya, and the technological collaboration between these states.
