This paper reviews the state of affairs of 1) the Turkish-Kurdish peace process, and 2) the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Iraq. The main argument of the author is that while the Kurdish areas of the Middle East are increasingly interacting with one another, the relative influence of the KRG has declined. This is because of 1) the emergence of the Islamic State - as well as the Syrian Kurds' successes against it; and 2) developments in the Turkish-Kurdish peace process and the result of the June 2015 Turkish general elections, in which the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) lost its majority in parliament. Finally, the author discusses what the future may hold for the Turkish-Kurdish peace process and role of the KRG in this process.
