This paper examines how the US can increase its global influence, advance international security and promote global prosperity through its hydrocarbon export policies and its energy innovation and technology activities. The authors argue that, if used properly, the abundance of energy resources that are being produced in the US could be an extremely valuable asset to achieving these goals. They also offer recommendations on what US policymakers can do to help make this happen. They should: 1) repeal the ban on the export of crude oil export; 2) ease the process of licensing for liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports; 3) sustain research and investment in clean energy technology; ; and 4) advance North American energy integration efforts.
