This analysis discusses some of the key developments and activities involving Islamist-Jihadist groups, including the so-called Islamic State (IS) and al-Qaida, between July and September 2015. Among other issues, the author looks at 1) the news and controversy surrounding the death of the Taliban leader Mullah Omar, which was announced in July 2015; 2) current al-Qaida leader Zawahiri's efforts to consolidate and unify all Jihadists; 3) Zawahiri's response to the appointment of Mullah Mansour as the head of the Taliban; 4) how al-Qaida is continuing to respond to the rise of the Islamic State by adjusting its strategy and objectives; 5) IS' preparations for terrorist attacks in the West and other regions; 6) how IS may seek to exploit the migration crisis in Europe; and 7) how the current objective of IS is to not only withstand the pressure of the coalition forces directed against it, but to prepare for renewed expansion when the opportunity arises.
