This paper presents a critical view of Qatar's role in the rise of jihadism in the Middle East and in the war in Syria. The author cites Indian strategist Professor Brahma Chellaney's view that Qatar is playing the duplicitous role of exporting jihad to the Middle East, North Africa and beyond while supporting the US in its fight against them. This extends to Syria where, she argues, Qatar pretends to be the protector of the Syrian people while supporting the mercenary jihadists committing genocide and ethno‐religious cleansing in the country. Doha's potential military intervention in Syria will further bolster these groups, which mainly consist of foreign fighters including from China, Chechnya, Central Asia and the Kashmir region of India. This, she warns, could escalate the war by drawing in three nuclear powers Russia, India and China to defend their homeland from these fighters.
