This report predicts that as China reemerges, Japan revitalizes, and the United States rebalances toward Asia, competition over the Korean Peninsula between the three powers will intensify. The text’s author thus examines 1) the two Koreas’ relationships with these powers; 2) how the strategic dynamics of the peninsula might eventually play out, including a possible North Korean collapse; and 3) sets out a comprehensive strategy that the US could use to achieve stability “on the ground” while also bringing about regime change in the North.
