This paper focuses on energy security in the Black Sea region and on the West’s attempts to counteract Russia’s use of gas supplies as a noxious geopolitical tool. More specifically, the text’s author argues that both the US and EU should oppose the construction of Gazprom's Turkish Stream gas pipeline while also supporting further oil and gas development around the Black Sea. The EU could, for example, expand the network of gas interconnections between the Black Sea area and Central Europe, and thus further diminish Western Europe’s dependence on Gazprom.
