This paper describes how the Chechen conflict has slowly disappeared from the international media and thus from public awareness. The conflict itself, however, continues, and the reconstruction of the heavily destroyed republic poses an immense challenge. This paper explores the extent to which Swiss and international actors may contribute to a peaceful future. It also examines the main challenges these actors face and outlines the local perception of Swiss initiatives in Chechnya.
