This paper provides a general overview of US security ties with the two Chinas – the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Republic of China (ROC) in relation to Taiwan. The author shows how these relationships are changing, outlines US security and military involvement with the ROC and examines briefly several policy options available to the US. The paper suggests that while the US should not make a dramatic shift in its security relationship with both the PRC and the ROC, some modest changes may be warranted.
