This paper describes how following the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, a military consensus has emerged that the transformation of the US armed forces has been a success. At the same time, the author points out that as events in Iraq and elsewhere demonstrate, US force transformation is far from complete. The paper also states that the use of the word "success" encompasses both absolute and relative components, both of which must be well understood in order for transformation to be completed and to assure the long-term support of lawmakers and the public.
