This article discusses the structure of China's economy and employment, the country's prospects for future growth as well consumption in China. The author argues that there are three mechanisms for increasing consumption in China: an increase in the overall level of wealth (per capita GDP), improved financial intermediation, and an increase in the share of government expenditure devoted to consumption.
