Over the past forty years there have been ten women presidents in Latin America, but what if anything does this relatively high level of representation say about broader female empowerment across the region? To answer this question, this publication looks at 1) women’s participation in public offices across Latin America; 2) the success of quota systems in the region's electoral systems; 3) female representation on private company boards, and more. The text also includes case studies on gender equality in Mexico, Chile and Bolivia, and finally recommends ways to improve gender equality across Latin America.
