This paper examines the influence of China and India on the African continent. The author argues that the scale of Chinese commercial infrastructure investments should give rise to concerns that China is following a new colonialist path in Africa. He suggests that by trading and supporting states with a less-than-perfect human rights or governance track record, China is interfering in domestic issues of African countries. He also argues that India, like China, wants access to Africa’s natural resources and also sees the continent as an outlet for manufactured goods.
