This paper examines ways to reduce poverty and the problems it leads to in the Third World. The author proposes that the EU should not be afraid to impose social and ecological standards on Third World countries that want to supply goods to the Union, and that it should not only export technology, but also the social market economy. The paper concludes that because the EU economy must seek cost minimization and profit maximization, the desired social and ecological standards need to be provided by law.
