This paper examines the need for sustainable energy policies in India that could respond to the country's demand for economic growth while protecting the environment. It identifies various steps to be taken to achieve this goal and gives a series of policy recommendations. The author also notes that India could benefit from an increase in foreign direct investment and technology transfer to further develop its path toward a cleaner environment.
