This paper links Italy’s preferred role in Europe to two central and interconnected objectives – 1) defending and promoting the nation’s interests, not least in response to the ever looming risk of marginalization, and 2) strengthening the integration and solidarity of EU members, particularly in the cases of economics and migration.
