This paper contends that NATO countries now view Russian violations of Alliance members´ airspace not as a bilateral issue but as a violation of NATO airspace. If this concept is accepted, it could set the precedent for other international organizations —such as ASEAN, the EU, the Russian-led CSTO and others— to exercise air sovereignty. As a result, the text’s author suggests that with Brussels beginning the process of adopting the concept of regional sovereignty and "EU airspace" by establishing the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) for an EU military, the world may be entering a post-Westphalian order where the state will no longer be sovereign.
