This paper discusses the tactics used by genocide deniers and the critical role archives play in the attempts to either find or obfuscate the truth about past exterminations. To illustrate the latter point, the text looks at 1) how past event are used to establish politically-tainted collective memories and identities; 2) how the Armenian genocide has been characterized since it occurred; and 3) how archival analyses have been used to support reparations efforts.
