This report focuses on the challenges of revitalizing the Bretton Woods economic system on behalf of a transnational order that serves the strategic interests of the United States and its Asian allies. The text concludes that to accomplish this end, the US needs to apply a new economic strategy to the Asia-Pacific region – i.e., one that 1) focuses both on trade and infrastructure development; 2) strengthens multilateral financial institutions (in particular the World Bank Group and the ADB); 3) promotes closer ties with allies; and 4) stresses private sector investment through multiple means.
