In this text, Evita Schmieg reflects on how Cuba can continue to integrate itself into existing international trade structures and arrangements. Yes, since Fidel Castro’s death the Cuban government has introduced a variety of legal reforms that will help diversify and expand the country’s exports, but its successful integration into the international system will ultimately depend on local improvements to Cuba’s infrastructure and production facilities.
