One hundred thousand people are experiencing famine in war-torn South Sudan, says the UN, and a further 5.5 million are at risk. In response, this briefing urges the country to redouble its efforts to establish the parameters that are needed for a workable ceasefire. At the same time, humanitarian corridors from Sudan should be kept open and external donors should entirely fund the UN’s aid appeal.
