This report analyzes the British military campaign in Transcaspia in 1918-19 focusing on the strategic and political debate on the British side. The British fought with the Transcaspian government (today Turkmenistan and part of Uzbekistan) against the Bolsheviks. The author explains the complex background of this episode influenced by many conflicts from the Great Game to the battle between communism and capitalism. He discusses the difficulties including the unreliability of military partners and various practical problems which altogether led to the British withdrawal in 1919.
