In light of Recep Erdoğan’s ongoing quest to consolidate his power and restructure the Turkish state, this article examines how EU members should interact with a ‘New Turkey.’ Following a brief reflection on the country’s recent systemic and legal ‘adjustments’ and the impact they will have on Ankara’s relations with its allies, the text’s author highlights Turkey’s continued strategic importance to the EU and advises Brussels to adopt a long-term perspective that touts the commonality of EU-Turkish interests.
