This paper reviews the establishment of the African Union (AU) as the institutionalization of pan-African ideals. It notes that the underlying purpose for the creation of the AU is to promote solidarity, cooperation and support among African countries and peoples to address an extensive catalogue of challenges. The discussion concludes with policy recommendations for transforming AU principles and norms into practice.
