Following the June 2018 summit between North Korea and the US in Singapore, this paper looks at what might lie in store for Pyongyang and the wider region. Key insights include 1) that following the summit’s closure, the unrealistic expectations that some held for it have evaporated; 2) ultimately, the most important recent summits regarding North Korea were the three meetings between Chinese President Xi Jinping and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un; 3) that both Russian and Chinese intelligence have long realized that both South Korea and Japan can live with a nuclear North Korea, even if the US cannot, and more.
