This paper analyzes the growing weaknesses of the eleven-year-old energy and diplomatic alliance known as Petrocaribe, which are primarily attributable to Venezuela’s socio-economic collapse. The paper’s authors specifically highlight the energy instability the US and others might suffer because of the alliance’s problems, and recommend ways to accelerate the introduction of less vulnerable sources of energy into the Central American and Caribbean areas.
